This style of proofreading a research paper in Microsoft Word serves as a guide for our clients.

To see the changes in the document, turn on Track Changes:

To turn on Track Changes follow THESE instructions:
  1. Choose the Review tab,
  2. In the Tracking group, turn on Track Changes

When Track changes is on, Microsoft Word shows the Final: Show Markup option by default, so changes made in the document are displayed.

N.B.: Changes are  in red colour.

Strike through in red means deletion.

Texts in red colour mean insertion.

For comments

To view the comments in the document:

  1. Once Track Changes is  on, Final: Show Markup shows by default. This shows the comments  made in the document.

Hence, you can read through and make the necessary changes.

To accept changes while you read through the document
  1. Click on the change made.
  2. On the Review tab, click the arrow beneath
  3. Click Accept Change.

 

To accept all changes in the document

When you are satisfied with all the changes in the document,

  1. Click on the change made.
  2. On the Review tab, click the arrow beneath Accept
  3. Click Accept All Changes in Document.

Accepting all changes leaves the document clean, deleting all markup.

Explaining the Review > Track Changes options
Final: Show Markup Displays the final version of the document with changes noted as markups.
Final Displays the final version of the document with changes;  the markups are hidden.
Original Displays the text of the original document.
